What is Kounis Syndrome?

Kounis syndrome can be defined as a heart attack that occurs due to allergic reasons. This condition may also be called "allergic myocardial infarction". In these rare cases, allergic causes such as drug use, insect bites, and bee stings can negatively affect the functioning of the heart muscle and cause a heart attack.

The main symptoms of Kounis syndrome are chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations. These may be accompanied by conditions such as skin redness and rash.

It is important to cooperate with an allergist in the treatment of patients with Kounis syndrome. While only allergy treatment may be sufficient in some patients, acute coronary syndrome needs to be treated in some patients.
